Veneklasen Brick

We learned that when Quincy was built, they modeled the entrance to look like the old Veneklasen Brick designs that were popular back in the early days of our town’s history. Veneklasen bricks were made right here in Zeeland and were orange and yellow, depending on the where the clay came from. It is said that L. Frank Baum, who wrote the Wizard of Oz, lived in Holland and had a walkway which led to the beach made from yellow Veneklasen bricks! So, without this piece of Zeeland history, we might not have the famous movie or song- “Follow the Yellow Brick Road!”
